As a charity, Woodlands relies heavily on donations and fundraising and the Friends of Woodlands - through the ever-popular Charity Shop - contribute greatly to the on-going improvement of Woodlands' facilities.
About Woodlands
Woodlands Resource and Respite Care Centre is purpose-built and set in 3½ acres of landscaped grounds on the edge of the city of York. Owned by the MS Society, Woodlands aims to make a positive difference to the lives of those affected by MS by providing high quality, specialist services.
The Respite Care Centre was opened in 1991 and has gained an excellent reputation for specialist holistic care tailored to meet the needs of people affected by MS.
An accredited Investor in People and Investor in Volunteers, Woodlands is committed to ensuring that all our friendly, caring staff are trained to understand the needs of people with MS.

The Resource Centre was added in 2003 to enable Woodlands to more widely share the specialist MS knowledge gained through the Respite Care Centre.
Woodlands Melrosegate Charity Shop opened in 1996 and contributes greatly to the ongoing improvement of Woodlands' facilities. During its first 10 years, a staggering amount of money totalling over £300,000 has been raised. Staffed by enthusiastic volunteers, the shop makes an interesting place both to work and to browse. Such has been the success that in 2007, a second Charity Shop was opened on Bishopthorpe Road.
The work of trained volunteers extends into the heart of life at Woodlands, enabling a diverse programme of outings and leisure activities throughout the year. This benefits all those who come to Woodlands, as well as enriching the lives of the volunteers.
